5Good for beginners  Feb 02, 2008
By Tony Wheeler
My younger son started playing the tenor sax this year. Rico Reeds was recommended by the teacher. So far, my son has not used up the first two boxes since he started playing 5 months ago. Of course, he burned through them faster at the beginning. Good quality, no defects in any of the reeds that we have found.

5Nothing suits me better.  Apr 06, 2011

A lot of different reeds out there. A lot of mouthpieces and styles and personal preferences. You're pretty much obliged to go out and experiment, considering the old adage that the mouthpiece choice is more critical than the horn, and the reed more than the mouthpiece. (I'm not sure I believe that, but the "butterfly" aspect is appealing.) I play tenor pieces in the 7-7* range, and can find no reed more satisfactory than the old tried and true soft rico. A three pack seems just about right to get me through a few months without worrying about replacement.

4Good starter reeds  Dec 02, 2010

I have always found Ricos to be acceptable beginner reeds for students in their first year or two playing. The reeds are fairly consistent, and the lower price means that breaking a reed is not too much of an expense for whomever is footing the bill for reeds (teacher, student, school, parent...). The provided plastic cases do a good job protecting the reed, as long as they are not pushed in too far. I usually move students to Rico Royal or Vandoran after their first full year or two.

3These reeds work nice  Jul 14, 2009
By Otto de la Peña "Crazy teacher"
These reeds are nice for beginning and intermediate leveled players. As I said in the title: these reeds work nice. Although these reeds are not the greatest, they usually work fine, are very durable and dependable. If you are an advanced musician try Vandoren. Fast shipping and great service as always in Amazon.

These came quickly and were just as described. A good price for quality reeds.
