5I love this mic  Mar 27, 2007
By Rick V "Rikity"
I have this corded version and have also used the beta 58a cordless and countless other mics for vocals. I sing in the higher ranged octaves and I prefer this mic over any others because of its excellent response and sensitivity throughout its range, it also has no problems picking up lower frequencies.

It also has an extremely narrow arc of sound pickup. Which for a microphone is a very good quality because you wont get feedback very often regardless of the ambient noise around you. I was testing a few things at home on my equiment and was recording some vocal tracks while singing along to some background music. The recording picked up so little of the background music that once you combine it with the other tracks, its next to impossible to tell it was even recorded with anything else even on!

This mic by far is the best one to use if you sing in any falsetto voice, its very sensitive and reproduces vocals of this type better than anything i've ever picked up. I know it also does well in some of the lower ranged octaves from hearing other people sing on it, but I think if that is your primary range you can go with the cheaper Beta 58 instead of the 58a. They are similar but the 58a seems to be a little more friendly to upper ranged vocals than the 58.

Once you've used this mic, you will notice the difference in every other mic you ever use after. This one is just plain superior.

5Shure Beta 58A used-as good as new  Jun 26, 2008
By N. C. E. Klomp "Nico"
I had my eye on a beta 58a for some time. Being a frequent shure sm58 user I wondered what advantages a beta would have compared to the sm. A friend of mine was kind enough to lend me one, so I tried it out during a gig. The difference was amazing: my voice sounded much clearer, more powerful and the beta had much higher output than de sm. The price was what kept me from buying the beta right away. Now I got one "used but as good as new" through amazon sold by music and film. The beta was indeed as good as new, or should I just say "new", works great and the shipment was fast.

5It's a Shure 58... of course it's great  Apr 10, 2007
By J. Fraser
The SM58 is pretty much the #1 choice by most people for a stage handheld. The Beta 58 is basically the same, but better. Better quality sound and better gain before feedback. It's a great mic and that's all there is to it!

The only thing that Shure could improve would be to have a better quality bag with more padding, this would just protect the mic a little more when lugging it around.

5Fantastic Microphone!  Dec 12, 2008
By Rafael Gratarolli
Well, this is a product that dispens comments. One of the most popular mics in the world. It's used by James Blunt, McFly, Coldplay and all the great names in the world. The captation is perfect, and the high-notes, falsetes sounds great in that mic. This is definitely a 100% professional microphone, wich can be used in live shows. Very trusty, very robust. Totally recomended!!!

1Complete Fake  Dec 28, 2011
By Mr. S. R. Ambrose
I received my Shure Beta 5a and it was well packed and in first class condition. That was the good news. The bad is that it is a fake. A Chinese knock off. How can I tell? Not so easy at first but a bit of research and you will know what to look for. These guys are clever so some areas will pass the test but as a whole you will soon realize its a FAKE.

1. The weight - First thing I noticed was that it felt very light. Although this was my first Beta I own several SM58's and you just know something is not correct when you hold it.
2. Condition - Basically too good for a used mike especially a workhorse like Shure. OK not a sign that its a fake but.....
3. The Blue ring around the top is just like a rubber band and rolls off easily. Real Beta's are well fixed in place.
4. Take off the windscreen and you will notice its quite a tight fit and the capsule binds. Not good.
5. Yellow band around cable at bottom of capsule. Not on original.
6. Wiring at capsule on original should be yellow and green not one color as mine is.
7. On top of capsule you will have Sure in raised letters but also in white a set of initials in white, the person who put it together, not on fake.
8. Pins at base gold (mine are) letters 1,2 and three on each pin, mine are, Shure below bottom pins, yup have that but then above where metal strip is also a letter, Oops they missed that.

This is just a few things I was able to spot. Weight as I said was the first indicator. Box packaging Velcro strip and bag all ok along with guarantee.

I contacted the sellers and they replied that they investigated and agreed it was a fake. I would get a full refund. At time of writing waiting on that. I traveled with this mike as an Xmas gift for someone so will return when I get back, full refund first would be a nice gesture. We will see.
